TREDIT participates in the European Integrated Project e-Freight, which is funded within the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The e-Freight project will facilitate the use of different transport modes on their own and in combination to obtain an optimal and sustainable utilisation of European freight transport resource.

The SMART-CM platform has, since October 2009, established fully operational connections with three different container security technology providers, thus materializing the single window concept in container tracking just one year after the project’s start. What is more, by combining information derived from the Container Security Status Devices and the Entry Summary.

The European Union policy aims at providing a viable and more efficient alternative to road only transport and will permit the substantial modal shift of freight traffic from congested roads to key combined “land-maritime routes”. This will be achieved through the improvement of existing or the development of new integrated intermodal maritime-based logistics chains with high quality maritime links that will connect a limited number of strategically located ports. The EastMed-MoS project aims at the successful implementation of the MoS concept in the Eastern Mediterranean region providing the framework for the development of the Eastern Mediterranean Motorways of the Seas.

PROMIT is a European Coordination Action (CA) for intermodal freight transport funded by the European Commission, under the 6th Framework Programme. PROMIT is initiating, facilitating and supporting the coordination and cooperation of national and European initiatives, projects, promotion centres, technology providers, research institutes and user groups related to this most complex transport form. The strategic PROMIT objective is to contribute to a faster improvement and implementation of intermodal transport technologies and procedures and to help promoting intermodal logistics and mode shift by creating awareness on innovations, best practices and intermodal transport opportunities for potential users as well as for politicians and for the research community. PROMIT will raise synergies in the European intermodal community and contribute to policy initiatives on national and European level supporting the shift of transports from road to Intermodal transport modes.
